Cherry Blossoms, 60”w x 41” h, Acrylic on Canvas, 2024
This painting draws inspiration from the enduring beauty and symbolism of cherry blossoms, a motif that represents the delicate, fleeting nature of life and the joy of springtime in Chinese and Japanese culture. Deeply influenced by the timeless works of Hokusai and, of course, the Almond Blossom paintings of Van Gogh, I approach this subject with a blend of expressive brushwork and reverence for tradition. Contemporary artists like Damien Hirst and David Hockney inspire me to explore modern interpretations of this iconic bloom, while Cezanne's mastery of creating both depth and flatness through non-representational brushstrokes informs my technique. Through my work, I aim to capture the ephemeral essence of cherry blossoms while exploring the interplay between abstraction and representation, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the transient beauty of nature.
