Cool Chrysanthemums,
80” w x 47” h, Acrylic on canvas, 2024

This painting explores the evocative power of color to tell a story and generate a feeling. Inspired by the rich tradition of chrysanthemums in art—ranging from classical Asian works to modern interpretations by artists like Joan Mitchell, Mondrian, and Egon Schiele—I sought to celebrate the beauty and resilience of these remarkable flowers.

Chrysanthemums, known for their ability to thrive even in cold weather, symbolize longevity, elegance, and peace in traditional Chinese painting. They are also associated with the Four Gentlemen, representing the seasons and classical virtues. I was captivated by their expressive movements, whether in full bloom or decay, and sought to reflect this vitality on canvas.

The dominant blue tones hold special meaning for me, as blue is a color often linked to the divine in Hinduism. It signifies infinity, peace, and intuition and is used to depict gods such as Vishnu, Shiva, and Krishna. This painting now resides in my yoga and meditation room, where it supports my practice and search for inner peace.

"Cool Chrysanthemums" is both a meditation on resilience and a personal reflection on spiritual balance, creating an atmosphere of calm and introspection.
